Acoustics

With the decision in favor of the international office ARUP and the renowned acoustician Tateo Nakajima as project manager, the Munich Concert Hall will have a sound unique to Germany and appropriate to Munich and Bavaria.

After an international competition, several acoustics firms had made a bid on the project in February 2019. Acoustics experts, representatives of the main occupants – the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and the University of Music and Performing Arts Munich – as well as external musical professionals consulted on examining and evaluating the offers.

A special emphasis was placed on exceptional acoustics for symphonic concerts. But the acoustics of the concert halls have to be optimal for solo performers, smaller ensembles and other formats like jazz or world music as well – posing a great challenge to all involved in the planning process!
